This study guide is specially designed to help the candidate in preparing for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (or Vocational Nurses), and/or Registered Nurses. While offering a systematic, logical review of essential content, this text emphasizes the integrated approach to nursing practice that the NCLEX-PN/VN, NCLEX-RN is designed to test. This book’s primary purpose is to help the candidate to review thoroughly the facts, principles, and applications of the nursing process. It should alleviate many concerns that the candidate may have about what, how, and when to study.

The author has taught NCLEX-PN/VN, and NCLEX-RN since 1989. Over the years, she spent a great deal of time studying the NCLEX-PN/VN, NCLEX-RN format and has incorporated this information into this book. This book reflects the current test plan for the NCLEX. Since, many overlaps between the NCLEX-PN/VN and NCLEX-RN on nursing principles exist, the author has compiled this book to aid test participants by using only one book to prepare for both tests. For someone preparing for the NCLEX-PN/VN test, this material’s content may be toward a higher competency level for the candidate.

On the other hand, an NCLEX-RN candidate may find this material easier to study. A candidate should use another supplemental NCLEX-RN review book as an enhancement. However, this will not interfere with your use of this text in preparing to take the NCLEX-RN.

In her review courses, the author, identified specific content and put it together so that the candidate can be successful on both NCLEX-PN/VN and NCLEX-RN tests. The response to this study guide has been very encouraging. The comments from the review course participants and the students have helped to shape the development of this text. This edition is concentrated on the most tested NCLEX subjects, reflecting updates and new testing trends. This review book is consistently being revised and new material is added to better prepare the students. I hope this guide can aid the reviewer in preparing for the licensure examination. However, please remember, you are the key person for the success of this examination. No study guide can replace your own effort in studying.
